our Heavy Lift Aircraft
Coulson’s heavy lift capabilities support multiple mission profiles operating in both urban and rural locations around the world – logging, power line construction, humanitarian support, and emergency extraction.
Key aircraft operated in heavy lift include the Chinook CH-47 with its ability to lift more than 25,000 pounds and the Sikorsky S-61 with its 10,000 lbs. useful load. The unsurpassed maneuverability, safety, and serviceability of Coulson’s workhorse fleet provides industry-leading heavy lift capabilities.
CH-47 Chinook
The CH-47 Chinook is one of the most capable and proven heavy-lift helicopters in the world. With a lifting capacity of over 25,000 pounds at sea level, it delivers exceptional performance across demanding missions. Twin engines provide built-in redundancy and enhanced safety, while its high cruise speed, superior fuel efficiency, and unmatched maneuverability set it apart in its class. The CH-47 also features multiple cargo hook configurations for added flexibility and is supported by a well-established global maintenance and parts network—making it both powerful and practical.
Sikorsky S-61
The Sikorsky S-61 was the company’s first purpose-built, twin-engine helicopter designed to leverage advancing turboshaft engine technology. It remains a reliable and versatile platform for heavy-lift operations. With a maximum takeoff weight of up to 22,000 pounds and a useful sling load capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, the S-61 can transport cargo, equipment, or up to 18 passengers with ease. Its cruise speed of 130 knots and range of 800 km make it ideal for extended missions in remote or rugged environments.
